
Full Job Description
Akebia’s Medical Communications Summer Internship will provide valuable insight into how medical communications delivers innovative approaches through multiple channels to support Medical Affairs. The intern will have the opportunity to work with a team of highly experienced medical communications professionals to explore roles of field medical resource & tool development, publications, and medical information and will interact with other industry experts across different departments in the company.
Required Skills
- Support the Medical Communications team in the development of educational tools, training, and resources for the field medical teams (Medical Science Liaisons and Medical Outcomes Liaisons) and internal stakeholders
- Lead the development of a key project within Medical Communications, assigned based on candidates’ interests and departmental needs
- Participate in development opportunities within the Medical Affairs department based on candidates’ interest (including, but not limited to, participate in field medical activities, Health Economics and Outcomes Research activities, Publications, etc.)
- Participate in cross-functional teams and committees to understand how Medical Affairs supports multiple functions (Marketing, Research & Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, etc.)
- Develop a general therapeutic knowledge of chronic kidney disease, epidemiology, and Akebia product information
- Develop an understanding of the roles and structure of a pharmaceutical company
- Develop and present a final capstone project to the Medical Affairs team and other relevant stakeholders
Required Experience
- Currently enrolled, and completed 1-2 years of study, as a full-time student in an advanced accredited degree program of pharmacy, medicine, or other healthcare-related curriculum
- Minimum grade point average of 3.2
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Fluency with Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. with ease of access to reliable internet, zoom, and phone as this will be a remote internship
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong interest in considering pharmaceutical industry as a potential career path
- Exhibits strong business acumen, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrates initiative and ability to maintain a high level of productivity with minimal supervision
- Proven ability to work well in teams and effectively manage multiple assignments and activities simultaneously
- Previous experience researching primary literature and/or involvement in “journal clubs”
